The PistenBully Paana conquers cross-country ski-trails worldwide

Laupheim, 12 September 2007. Having established themselves on the market over 25 years ago, Paana machines are the outright leaders in the Scandinavian cross-country ski-trail segment. Now Kässbohrer Geländefahrzeug AG has taken over the previous manufacturers – the Finnish company Keiteleen Latukone Oy.

Market leader Kässbohrer is also the world’s number one in the cross-country ski-trail segment. With the extension to its product range, in the form of the PistenBully Paana, Kässbohrer now has the right vehicle available for all areas of operation. With its three different working widths, the PistenBully Paana is the perfect addition to the Kässbohrer portfolio. Specially designed for extreme, Nordic terrain and weather conditions, the PistenBully Paana features robust technology and thus guarantees a high degree of reliability. An excellent price-performance ratio and low running and maintenance costs also argue in favour of the PistenBully Paana.

With its two-stage tilling system, it prepares ski trails to meet FIS requirements in a single work cycle. The snow tiller works only on the upper layer of snow (0-40mm); the ski-trail tiller prepares the narrow area just in front of the ski-trail track-setting pans and can be set at 0-60mm. The PistenBully Paana thus achieves extremely long-lasting cross-country ski trails on all types of snow! As an optional extra, there is a two-stage Paana “Competition” track-setting device with a ski-trail tiller in front of the right-hand track-setting pan, track-width adjustment and hydraulic adjustment of the right-hand track-setting pan. The PistenBully Paana can prepare every type of track.

The PistenBully Paana is available in three preparation widths. At just 2.2-metres wide, it comes into its own on narrow forest tracks or when preparing winter hiking trails. Alternatively, customers can opt for a PistenBully Paana with a 2,800 or 3,100mm preparation width. The one-man cab is heated and quiet, an air-sprung seat offers the driver excellent comfort, large window ensure a clear view to all sides and the PistenBully Paana controls couldn’t be simpler. The tracks are specially designed for cross-country ski trails and facilitate preparation of areas with thin covers of snow. The tracks’ open cleats made from hardened steel ensure outstanding resistance to wear. The cleat height is 78mm, although shallower 65mm cleats are available for delicate surfaces and areas of limited snow cover

Highly recommended by loyal customers

Those in charge in Finnland’s Kuusamo, the venue for the opening of the Nordic World Cup, have been in awe of the tracks left by Paana machines since 1987. With four Paana models, 500 to 800 hours of operation are notched up each year over around 500km of ski trails. Väinö Määttä, ski-trail manager in Kuusamo, values the track-setting devices above all else – especially the ski-trail tiller. “With the Paana machines you can set excellent ski-trail tracks quickly and easily, even in really tough snow conditions. In just one work cycle!"

The Finnish ski region of Levi – renowned as the venue of the World Cup Slalom – is also an ardent Paana customer. For over 15 years, Levi has been using Paana ski-trail machines to prepare its 250km of ski and 750km of snowmobile trails. Hannu Levinheimo, who is responsible for the ski-trail network and the snowmobile trails, rates the power and durability of Paana machines particularly highly. The two-stage tiller system – the powerful snow tiller combined with ski-trail tiller – makes ski-trail preparation quick and easy.” The six Paana vehicles are used in Levi for six months per year, during which time they complete around 1,000 hours of operation.

Already, the PistenBully Paana has fans not only in Scandinavia, but in Austria too, where 13 Paana machines are currently in operation. The PistenBully Paana is now on course for global success, with the aid of Kässbohrer Geländefahrzeug AG’s well-established, worldwide sales and service.
