Sunday River: Installation of First Chondola in the Northeast

Chondola is a high-speed detachable six-person chairlift that carries gondola cabins at regular intervals. The lift is being manufactured by Doppelmayr CTEC.

The Chondola will carry six-person chairs and eight-person gondola cars on one high-speed lift running from the South Ridge base area directly to the Peak Lodge on North Peak. This new lift will cut what was a 20-minute trip on two separate lifts to a single ride of just under seven minutes, bringing skiers and riders to a point from where they'll have direct access to six of Sunday River’s eight peaks in a single run. The Chondola will also introduce 12-hour skiing and riding an become the center of summer operations at the resort serving hikers and mountain bikers and opening the Peak Lodge for weddings, special events and more. The Chondola is part of a $14 million dollar investment at Sunday River for winter 2008-09
