Austria’s longest wonder carpet on the Wildkogel

At 243m in length, the SunKid ‘Wonder Carpet’ conveyor at Neukirchen am Wildkogel exceeds all previous SunKid conveyors in Austria! The new “Wonder Carpet” is situated at 2,100 m above sea level at the top station of the Wildkogel cable car. The conveyor opens up a newly established piste for advanced skiers and snowboarders and connects the Kaserboden children’s area with the existing area which is reserved for children. Besides the cable car, the Neukirchen ski school also benefits from the new 243m long system.

In 2008, the Wildkogel ski arena built a new section of piste for advanced skiers and snowboarders. A great variety of demands were placed on the ascent aid. A slope of 23% had to be surmounted and in terms of capacity, 1,000 people had to be conveyed per hour. Children, beginners, advanced skiers and snowboarders are all transported. In cooperation with the Neukirchen ski school, the decision was taken to install a SunKid ‘Wonder Carpet’ conveyor.

The SunKid side exit increases operational reliability!

At a length of 243m, the new system on the Wildkogel is the longest SunKid ‘Wonder Carpet’ in Austria. The new conveyor is powered by a 30 KW motor. The operators also opted for SunKid’s patented ‘radius’ side exit. The reason for this was that the shutdown of the conveyor could be minimised, something which is only possible from the SunKid design of the side exit. In the exit area, the switch off flap and the light barrier are replaced by a safety gate. This significantly increases operational reliability, especially when snow falls!

As a service for guests, the operators of the Wildkogel ski arena opted for the wider 750mm belt (standard: 600mm). The level of comfort is increased over the 243m long journey with the wider conveyor and plenty of stability is assured. When it came to selecting the conveyor surface, SunKid was able to impress the client with its in-house Blue Eye model. The combination of a hard natural rubber base conveyor and a soft vulcanised spots ensure that the skis stay on the belt as well as a resistance to cold temperatures of up to -40 degrees Celsius.

Camera monitoring & intercom system

Supervision by the operators of Wildkogel ski arena is also provided when leaving the longest SunKid ‘Wonder Carpet’. To monitor the entrance area, the cable car operator also installed a camera surveillance system. An intercom system is also available for announcements. When used with all of the SunKid conveyer safety equipment, the highest level of safety is guaranteed.

The ski school expands the Kogel-Mogel children’s area

The 243m long SunKid ‘Wonder Carpet’ enabled the Neukirchen ski school to expand the Kogel-Mogel children’s Kinderland. The ski school’s area was doubled by connecting the Kaserboden to the existing children’s Kinderland at Wildkogel. Where the guests previously had five SunKid ‘Wonder Carpets’ available for skiing lessons, there are now seven SunKid ‘Wonder Carpet’ conveyors in use at the Neukirchen ski school and Wildkogel ski arena as well as a SunKid ‘Rotondo’ ski and tubing carousel.

The heads of the ski school Sepp Maier and Hans Dreier are happy about the expansion to the children’s area at the Wildkogel mountain station. As Sepp Maier states, commenting on the initial experience from this season: “The Neukirchen ski school has been able to further improve the quality of teaching for children and beginners due to the expansion and investment made in SunKid Wonder Carpets”.
