Mt. Sima, located in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, announced that it would not open for the season due to low snowfall and other issues. The Eaglecrest Board of Directors decided to support Mt. Sima and its season pass holders by extending free skiing and snowboarding for the remainder of the season at Eaglecrest. “We want Mt. Sima to continue to operate and provide a valuable service to the residents of Whitehorse in future years” said Eaglecrest General Manager Kirk Duncan. “We feel it is in the best interest of all ski areas to have as many successful ski areas as possible. Eaglecrest feels by helping Mt. Sima through this temporary problem will help insure its long-term success. We don’t want the residents of Whitehorse to get out of the habit of skiing and snowboarding. In addition, this may be a very good way to fill up some hotel rooms and restaurants”. According to Duncan “Eaglecrest is not only an asset to Juneau but to all of Southeast and portions of Canada as well. With our record snowfall last year and abundant snow fall this year, Eaglecrest could become a destination area for more than just Southeast”. Mt. Sima season pass holder need only to present their season pass at the Eaglecrest ticket window to receive their complimentary day of skiing or snowboarding. Eaglecrest is open Thursday through Monday and is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. Eaglecrest will operate daily March 13 through March 24 for the Spring Break Holidays.
