LOOP21 equipped the new cableway Penkenbahn with a Wi-Fi communication system

Wireless services enable announcements, intercom system, light control in the cable cars and video surveillance along the route

Mayrhofen – The Austrian IT company LOOP21 Mobile Net GmbH equipped the in December 2015 reopened 3S cableway Penkenbahn of the mountain railways company Mayrhofner Bergbahnen AG with a modern Mobility Communication System. This newly developed system enables management, control and montoring as well as the communication with the single cable cars – centralized from the control room. Thanks to the precise planning and installation which was coordinated with Doppelmayr Seilbahnen GmbH, the system runs perfectly since commissioning and supports the smooth operations of the mountain railway.

“With the new Penkenbahn we are setting new benchmarks. Beside the significantly reduced waiting times and the enormous travelling comfort all cabins have Wi-Fi.” Ing. Josef Geisler, responsible operating manager, operations management department Penken of Mayrhofner Bergbahnen AG. “The seamless wireless connectivity is also the basis for the completely new communication concept: Intercom system, light control, video surveillance – and everything is operated centrally via the touch terminal in the control room. “

“Nowadays IP-based IT technologies are the foundation of managing, controlling and monitoring in public transport.” Manuel Urbanek, CEO of LOOP21 Mobile Net GmbH. “Reliability, availability, remote diagnosis and maintenance are the key benefits. We at LOOP21 are experts on the field of network engineering. By the use of our specially developed Mobility Communication System the running operations of mountain railways are optimized. Maximum convenience of handling and operating is paramount.”

The project included planning and realization of a digital communication with the cabins of the cableway. The engineers of LOOP21 created a solution based on state-of-the-art network technologies. The specially designed communication boxes including all components were integrated into the cable cars. By wireless services along the whole route the employees of Mayrhofner Bergbahnen can speak with the cabins and get messages on the intercom system, play music or make announcements, control the light in the single cable cars and access to the security cameras. The management is done on the centrally located touch display in the control room. An autonomous energy supply and chargers were implemented. The public Wi-Fi is also available for the skiing guests during their ride. So they receive local and latest information via the communication platform Mountainment®. By the use of the innovative LOOP21 system a sustainable customer benefit has been created.
