Ragged Mountain: Letter Of Appreciation And Future Plans From Owners

Dear Ragged Mountain Community –

As our first season of ownership comes to an end, we wanted to take a moment to share our experiences, thank this amazing community, and talk about what’s next for Ragged Mountain.

From the very beginning we have felt that it is the people and the community around Ragged that make this place special. It’s you; our guests, staff, partners and supporters that make Ragged feel like home and serve as our mountain family.  Thank you; for welcoming us, encouraging us and giving us your feedback. Most of all Thank You, for making Ragged your home mountain.

Ragged is already an incredibly vibrant resort and we aren’t looking to make massive changes. Our focus is to help Ragged realize its full potential so that it remains an essential community asset for generations to come. After a season of  observing and learning, we are more excited than ever about the potential of this place. To help ensure we realize this potential, we are initiating a multi-year, phased investment plan. This plan will position Ragged as New Hampshire’s premier value-driven mountain experience; a place for core skiers and riders, families, and newcomers alike, terrain for all abilities, and a comfortable community to call home. To do this we will focus our resources across the following areas:

Base Area Guest Experience:

Starting this Summer we will execute Phase 1 of our planned remodel of the Elmwood Lodge, prioritizing guest flow and space utilization. Elmwood is Ragged’s basecamp and we want this space to function better for our guests. The work we do this Summer will make this incredible lodge feel bigger and more capable of serving our guest’s needs all season long. This offseason we will:
  • Expand Harvest Cafe
  • Create dedicated bag storage on the first level of Elmwood
  • Build additional seasonal lockers (more details to come and guests on the waiting list will have first priority to these new lockers)
  • Upgrade tables and seating throughout the lodge including Stone Hearth
Snow Making:

Our priority is to protect our season length, consistency and terrain availability.  Our long-term goal is to expand snowmaking to achieve 95%+ coverage of our non-gladed terrain. We will make investments in snowmaking design, equipment and technology allowing us to prioritize  early season base building and faster terrain openings. We kickoff this Summer with the Phase 1 expansion of snowmaking on Easy Winder. That’s right – dormant for decades, Big Rock Basin is back! We love the terrain over there, and while this won’t be the first place we make snow, by adding snowmaking in Big Rock Basin we can open it earlier and keep it available for longer.

Lift Operations:

Ragged has an amazing fleet of lifts to deliver our guests swiftly to the Summits of Spear and Ragged. This Summer we will proactively replace the haul rope on the Summit Six pack to ensure guest safety and lift reliability on this essential lift. We will also complete the repair on the Barnyard lift finishing the new low-voltage drive installation that we started in February. We all felt the down-time on the Barnyard lift earlier this season and this will help ensure we keep it running for years to come.

This is just the beginning of a new chapter for Ragged Mountain. We stand beside all the previous owners, guests, staff and ardent supporters, and remain committed to keeping Ragged as an affordable, high-value ski experience during our tenure as its stewards. Thank you for continuing to believe in Ragged and the idea that skiing and riding can be independent AND accessible. We look forward to seeing you up on the hill over the Summer and next Winter.

Thank you and, as always, THINK SNOW.
Bill, Mike, Carl, Tristan, Josh and Seth
