Axess: Mountain Tourism: Simplifying Complexity, Connecting Processes

Mountain tourism is undergoing a fundamental transformation. Digital sales, ticketing, and access management must work together across multiple locations and touchpoints. For large destinations in particular, this presents a key challenge: How can different systems be connected in ways that integrate and simplify operational processes while delivering a consistent guest experience? Rather than relying on individual, disconnected solutions, destinations are increasingly turning to an integrated approach in which processes and touchpoints work together seamlessly.

The future of digitalization in mountain tourism will be shaped less by individual technologies than by how effectively they work together. After all, guests experience a destination as a whole, not as a collection of separate systems. Their journey begins with purchasing a ticket online and continues through resort access and the use of additional services. For operators, this creates a need to connect these touchpoints as seamlessly as possible. An integrated system landscape can help coordinate processes across multiple locations while preparing the underlying technical infrastructure for future requirements.

A Real-World Example of Why Connected Systems Matter

The importance of integrated systems for efficient, future-ready operations becomes particularly clear at large destinations. France's SATA Group operates several major ski resorts in the Oisans region, including Grandes Rousses, Les 2 Alpes, La Grave, and Alpe du Grand Serre. With hundreds of kilometers of ski runs and millions of guests each year, these resorts bring together multiple locations, high visitor volumes, and seasonal peaks. A robust infrastructure that operates reliably, scales flexibly, and connects different processes is therefore a critical factor.

Against this backdrop, SATA Group selected Axess as its technology partner this year. Together, the two companies are implementing an integrated infrastructure that connects ticketing, digital sales, access control, and visitor management.

SATA Group and Axess: Building a Connected Future Together

The collaboration between SATA Group and Axess marks the beginning of a comprehensive modernization of the digital infrastructure. The project will leverage the Axess RESORT solution portfolio, covering everything from ticketing and access control to the digital sale of services. Destinations of this scale, with their complex operational requirements, demonstrate the importance of integrated, high-performance solutions that connect different areas across the entire guest service journey. “We are very proud to be implementing this strategic project together and laying the foundation for our customer's long-term success,” says Oliver Suter, CEO of Axess AG.

Every destination has its own requirements in terms of visitor volumes, infrastructure, and organizational structures. Systems must therefore be flexible enough to adapt to these specific conditions. “This partnership highlights our technological expertise, collaborative approach, and ability to successfully deliver tailored solutions. I look forward to bringing this project to life together with SATA Group,” says Maurice Zinniger, Managing Director of TEAMAXESS France S.A.R.L.

The transition to the new technology is set to begin in time for the upcoming winter season.
