Loon Mountain Resort: Upgrades for Our 60th Season

Update from Brian, GM Loon Mountain Resort

Loon looks ahead to it´s 60th winter season, it’s incredible to see how far the resort has come—and even more exciting to share what’s next. We’ve been hard at work on some key upgrades that will elevate the guest experience and support you and the team in new ways.

To celebrate this milestone winter, we’re planning a lineup of special events, exclusive merchandise, giveaways, and a few surprises to make the season extra memorable.

New Carpet Lift + High-Speed Enhancements

We’re enhancing the beginner experience with the addition of a brand-new carpet lift—Little Sass. Located at the bottom of the Sarsaparilla trail, this 120-foot conveyor lift is designed for first-timers to get comfortable on gentle terrain and build foundational skills.

Previously, the only entry-level option was to walk up a mostly flat slope to begin learning. Now, with Little Sass in place, we’ve introduced an additional step in the progression—making that first-time experience easier, more accessible, and more enjoyable for beginners.

From there, guests can progress to the Sarsaparilla Carpet, which is being upgraded with high-speed terminals at both the top and bottom. These improvements mean shorter wait times and a smoother ride up a slightly longer, steeper slope— great news for guests and instructors alike.

More Snow, Faster—North Peak Upgrades

Right after the lifts stopped spinning this past spring, the Operations team jumped into action with major upgrades on Upper and Lower Flume and Upper Walking Boss. With improvements to the booster pump station, valve houses, and larger pipes, we’ll be able to deliver more snow to more trails—at higher elevations and at a faster rate.

The team also added new snowmaking hydrants, and seven new snow guns on Sunset, to provide edge-to-edge coverage on one of Loon’s widest, popular trails.

Loon Mountain Park Gets a Boost

Snowmaking pipe has been replaced and reinstalled in Loon Mountain Park, building on last season’s major infrastructure upgrades—including a new intake in New River, rebuilt pumps, and a larger diameter feed line. These improvements allow significantly more water to flow through the system, paving the way for earlier terrain park builds this season.

Additionally, the installation of new HKD Klik hydrants brings faster, more precise control to our snowmaking operations. This advanced technology will allow us to produce more snow in less time, using less compressed air—boosting both operational efficiency and sustainability.

Pulse Gondola Project

We first announced the Pulse Gondola project back in April 2024. While physical construction hasn’t started yet, the project is moving forward.

We’re working closely with our partners at RiverWalk Resort at Loon Mountain and South Peak Resort, and there’s been progress happening behind the scenes. We're currently navigating the necessary approvals and logistical planning required to bring this vision to life.

That said, the Pulse Gondola will not open during the 2025/26 winter season. However, we remain committed to the project and will continue to keep you updated as we move forward.

Loon is Going Cashless

Starting November 1, Loon will be cashless. After years of consideration, we will now align with other Boyne Resorts. Being cashless will streamline experiences for guests. We'll share more details as the season draws closer.

Resort Charge is a convenient way to link your credit card directly to your pass, making purchases quicker and seamless. Plus, each transaction at participating venues helps you earn BoyneRewards points. Take a moment to check your account and ensure you're set up—more points mean more rewards you can redeem throughout the season.

Partnering with the Snow Angel Foundation

Boyne Resorts is now a partner of the Snow Angel Foundation — becoming the first ski resort operator to form a company-wide partnership with the foundation.

The Snow Angel Foundation was established in 2023 by co-founders Chauncy and Kelli Johnson, following a tragic Christmas Eve collision in 2010 that claimed the life of their 5-year-old daughter Elise and left Kelli with life-altering injuries.

Boyne Resorts will host collision safety training sessions facilitated by the Snow Angel Foundation at Loon this winter. More details to come on this.

Sustainability

This season, we’re expanding our snow cat fleet with a focus on sustainability. We’re excited to welcome the PistenBully 600E+, allowing us to cover more terrain, faster—and in the most environmentally responsible way. In addition, we’ve added another Ford Lightning to our lineup, bringing us to five EVs in total—the most of any ski resort in the East.
