The City of Los Angeles: Feasibility study of an Aerial Transit System for Griffith Park

City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks is preparing a feasibility study of an Aerial Transit System to ease traffic congestion and access challenges at Griffith Park.

An Aerial Transit System for Griffith Park would be a “closed loop” system where riders can only enter at the origin station. There would be minimal noise impacts at the landing station and the station itself would be non-visible due to the landscape’s natural berm.

City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks selected Stantec, a global engineering, consulting, architecture and design firm, to prepare a feasibility study of an Aerial Transit System that considers:
  • Transit and mobility in and around Griffith Park.
  • Safe and sustainable technologies.
  • Access and enjoyment of Griffith Park.
The study will serve as a tool to allow informed decision making on whether to move an Aerial Transit System forward for Griffith Park.

Routes examined in the study were based on existing park conditions, uses and constraints (click on the route image to expand). Scroll down to the Outreach Toolkit to view additional Study reports, presentations and materials.

Routes 1 and 2 include an angle point to accommodate the alignments given various design constraints. In addition to this, the angle points will facilitate potential future expansion to the Observatory.
