TechnoAlpin TR8 selected as finalist for “Compasso d’Oro” design award

TechnoAlpin is very proud to announce that the TR8 fan-based snow producer was a finalist in this year’s prestigious “Compasso d’Oro” design award. Dating back to 1954, the ADI Compasso d’Oro is the oldest but, more importantly, the most eminent design award in the world.

The TR8 snow producer was designed by TechnoAlpin and the South Tyrolean industrial design studio MM Design and won the distinguished iF Design Awardback in 2018. The two companies have enhanced the modernity of ski resorts worldwide with their innovative industrial design. Potential winners of the Compasso d’Oro prize are shortlisted by a panel of experts, designers, critics, historians, trade journalists and judges from various other fields.

This outstanding achievement demonstrates once again the pioneering role of the world leaderTechnoAlpin in the snowmaking market, recognizing not only its technological prowess but also acknowledging the importance of innovative, modern and, above all, sustainable design. The TR8 fan-based snow producer was launched by TechnoAlpin in 2018 and set new engineering standards. The entire housing of the snow producer was redesigned with the primary goal of simplifying the work of the snowmaking teams. The TR8 was also the first to feature a new drive technology, which is also used in the new TR10 fan-based snow producer and which significantly increases efficiency, where the fan and compressor are driven by one single electric motor. The permanent magnet motor with inverter enables the TR8 to achieve efficiency class IE4 which means that it can be operated in a much wider voltage range than its predecessor, the T40, with no change in power consumption. This allows ski areas to operate the machine independently of mains voltage fluctuations or voltage drops caused by the length of the power line. This feature has proved particularly beneficial at high altitudes in places like Cervinia, for example. A TR8 installed there at 3,320 m in 2018 is one of the highest snow guns in Europe. Only the world market leader was capable of coping with these most difficult of installation conditions.
