Forest Service releases draft decision for Bergman Bowl enhancements at Keystone

“Our draft decision strikes a balance between protecting sensitive resources like wetlands while providing expanded recreational and economic opportunities at this popular ski resort,” said Acting Forest Supervisor Lisa Stoeffler. “These improvements would be in an area already being used by skiers that is within Keystone’s permitted boundary.”

The decision includes construction of 13 ski trails in Bergman Bowl, as well as three ski trails and gladed terrain in Erickson Bowl. A detachable chairlift and a ski patrol hut would be built in Bergman Bowl. Snowmaking infrastructure would be added across 20 acres on proposed beginner and intermediate ski trails in Bergman Bowl, and the Outpost Restaurant would be expanded.

Keystone Resort’s goal is to better use existing terrain within their operational boundary, redistribute skiers from the front side of the mountain to less-crowded areas, and increase the terrain variety for skiers and riders of all ability levels. Keystone Resort operates on the White River National Forest under a special use permit.

Release of the Draft Decision Notice on the Keystone Resort Bergman Bowl Enhancement Projects Environmental Assessment initiates a 45-day objection period.
