Doppelmayr: Norway’s longest aerial tramway in Åndalsnes

The latest attraction in Åndalsnes opened at the beginning of summer, following a 13-month construction period. Norway’s longest aerial tramway brings visitors up to the popular Nesaksla mountain at a speed of ten meters per second.

Nestling between fjords and mountains, Åndalsnes is a popular destination for active vacation-ers. With the Romsdalsgondolen aerial tramway, Åndalsnes now has yet another attraction, which represents a major step for the region’s tourist development. Until now, Nesaksla mountain could only be reached by a two-hour hike, part of which included the famous Romsdalseggen ridge walk. During the trip on the Romsdalsgondolen tramway, visitors climb 692 vertical meters over the 1,676-meter route from the fjord up to Nesaksla mountain.

Convenient access
The lower terminal is located directly next to the harbor and the railroad station. This makes for convenient access to the tramway for arriving guests, irrespective of whether they use the local transit network or come by cruise ship. Each of the spacious tramway cabins provides space for 45 passengers and, thanks to the split-level floor, enables all passengers to enjoy stunning pan-oramic views. The barrier-free access ensures a comfortable trip for all guests, including those with strollers or wheelchairs. “We’re delighted to carry our visitors up to the Nesaksla,” says Romsdalsgondolen CEO Pål R. Amundsen. “From the upper terminal, they can access a large hiking area that has something for everyone. In the new restaurant, our guests get to enjoy great food and the magnificent view.”
