TRM: Sucessful upgrades of the snowmaking systems at Sugarloaf Mou tainSugarloaf Mountain in the US state of Maine is one of the most legendary ski resorts in North America. With an altitude of 1,288 meters and a skiable area of over 1,360 hectares, the resort not only offers world-class skiing and myriad winter leisure activities, it also offers summer activities such as hiking, mountain biking and golf. As part of its long-term development plans, which focus on sustainability and expansion, Sugarloaf was faced with the challenge of installing a modern and sustainable snowmaking system. For this project, they relied on TRM's many years of experience and quality and its exclusive North American partner PNP Supply LLC. This partnership proved crucial to the successful completion of the project, which involved the installation of a 6.5 km pipeline made of DN 100 to 300 ductile iron pipes with a pressure level of PN 63 to modernize the resort's snow system. The choice of TRM pipes was based on strict requirements which were very important to Sugarloaf: Safety, durability, reliability and sustainability. TRM's ductile iron pipe technology offered all of these benefits and fulfilled the requirements of the project perfectly. Thanks to the VRS®-joint design, the pipes could be installed quickly and efficiently - an important factor for the successful completion of the project under difficult conditions. During the installation phase in the summer of 2023, the project was confronted with extreme weather conditions. New England experienced heavy rainfall, which made the work considerably more difficult. Nevertheless, thanks to the robust and easy-to-handle TRM piping systems, the team was able to continue the installation without the need for special equipment or techniques. This resulted in up to 1,300 feet (approx. 400 meters) of pipe being installed per day, even in adverse conditions. Despite the challenges, the project was successfully completed on time. TRM's ductile iron pipe has proven to be extremely reliable and will provide Boyne Resorts - which includes Sugarloaf - with sustainable, long-lasting solutions for years to come. In total, PNP Supply has installed more than 50,000 feet (approx. 15,240 meters) of TRM pipe at several of the group's resorts, including Sugarloaf, Sunday River and Pleasant Mountain.
